For those looking to test out the upcoming iOS 11 update, you’ll now be able to download the public beta version of the software from Apple’s website. Announced earlier this month during WWDC, iOS 11 comes with your standard tweaks and refinements, but also a huge focus on making the iPad a more powerful computing tool worthy of its larger screen and keyboard attachment.
You’ll now be able to drag and drop info and media across apps, expand the dock on iPad to fit far more apps, multitask with up to three apps simultaneously, and access a more traditional file management system that syncs with iCloud and other third-party providers. There’s also a host of smaller changes that should prove useful, including built-in screen capture, a more robust and customizable Control Center layout, and Siri language translations.
As is the case with any piece of beta software, there will almost certainly be bugs to contend with that range in severity. So it would be a wise move to make sure you have a manual backup saved either on your computer or through iCloud that you can fall back on in the event iOS 11 leaves your iPhone or iPad acting wonky. You can also install iOS 11 solely on a secondary device (or just on your iPad), if you have the luxury of owning one of those. The final version of the software is expected to ship later in the fall after Apple’s annual iPhone event, which typically happens in September.

The movement to regulate Facebook is attracting powerful new allies

This week, a bipartisan group of US senators took the first steps toward regulating online political advertising in a manner similar to the way the government already regulates these ads in traditional media. Ubuntu is now available on the Windows Store

  At Microsoft's Build 2016 conference, the company shocked the tech world when it announced support for Bash shell and the entire Linux command line system on Windows 10. This year the surprise continued by extending its Linux love to SUSE and Fedora distributions as well. With the first announcement, Microsoft tapped Ubuntu maker Canonical to help ensure smooth Bash performance on Windows as it is on the various Linux distributions. Well, today Canonical is officially releasing Ubuntu in the Windows Store for download right now. Microsoft's Rich Turner also released an official announcement that lays out the benefits of this Windows Store version of Ubuntu as well as some helpful FAQs.
